Contact Lens Fitting

We are dedicated to bringing you the most advanced contact lens materials and designs available, as well as the latest in contact lens fitting techniques. New developments in soft contact lens materials have resulted in lenses which are more comfortable, less dry, and more “breathable”, allowing more oxygen to reach the eye, and these materials are now available in a wider range of prescriptions and wearing modalities.

Advancements in lens designs for the correction of astigmatism and for bifocal wearers have also allowed more successful contact lens wear for many of our patients. The use of gas permeable rigid and soft/rigid combination lenses allows us to correct conditions where the cornea (the front part of the eye) becomes misshapen or distorted, such as keratoconus.

Through careful examination and measurement of the eyes, and the application of the latest materials and fitting techniques, we are able to successfully prescribe contact lenses to many patients who previously were unable to wear them.

  • Soft disposable lenses - one day, two week, or one month modalities
  • Soft disposable contact lenses for astigmatism
  • Gas permeable contact lenses
  • *Hybrid - Combination rigid / soft lenses - Synergeyes KC, the first hybrid contact lens with FDA clearance specifically designed for patients with Kerotoconus or irregular corneas.
  • Progressive contact lenses for presbyopia

Hybrid Gas Permeable/Soft Contact Lenses

A “hybrid” contact lens is made up of a central gas permeable lens material portion surrounded by a peripheral soft lens material skirt. This combination allows for the advantages of both a gas permeable lens (sharp visual acuity, particularly in an eye with an irregular cornea or astigmatism) and a soft lens (excellent immediate comfort and wearability) without their respective drawbacks (less than optimum initial comfort with a gas permeable lens, less than optimum visual acuity in certain conditions with a soft lens).

While the hybrid contact lens has proved to be an invaluable tool in the correction of keratoconus and irregular corneas, it has also found use in the correction of astigmatism in those with normal corneas who require the sharpest possible vision.
