Exam Page Title line

A comprehensive ocular examination consists of the evaluation of the health of the eye and visual system, and includes careful examination of the front and back of the eye to detect conditions such as cataracts, retinal abnormalities (such as those arising from diabetes and high blood pressure, and retinal detachments), the measurement of the pressure in the eye and the examination of the optic nerve to detect glaucoma.

Evaluation of the eye teaming ability and eye coordination is performed, as well as measurements of the shape and regularity of the front part of the eye. The determination of the presence of nearsightedness, farsightedness, astigmatism, and focusing problems is also made. These tests are performed using automated instruments as well as subjective techniques.

GDX GDx™—Precise optic nerve analysis for glaucoma case detection, diagnosis, and management.

Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness. Early glaucoma detection is essential to preventing vision loss. The GDx VCC retinal scanning technology is an additional tool enhancing our doctor’s ability to detect glaucoma early…before any vision loss can occur. This is a fast, painless assessment and does not require drops of any kind.

Visual Fields Visual Fields Testing

The precise measurement and mapping of central and peripheral vision is critical in detecting certain disorders such as glaucoma, neurological conditions, retinal disorders, and even intracranial tumors. The visual field analyzer plots numerous points of vision, mapping out their respective sensitivities in order to reveal vision loss patterns which occur in these conditions and others. This is a painless, noninvasive test which provides valuable information crucial to assessing potentially serious visual problems.

Retinal Photography Retinal Photography

The retinal camera takes a digital photo of the retina, which is located at the back of the eye, and can reveal abnormalities including macular degeneration and retinal holes or detachments, as well as systemic diseases such as diabetes, cancer, stroke, and high blood pressure. It also images the optic nerve which can reveal glaucoma and neurological conditions.

The retinal photo is a permanent record which allows us to compare any changes in these conditions at future examinations.
